It’s Beginning to

Look A Lot Like Christmas!

I was listening to Missy Higgins song “Scar”, and it got me to thinking about 2020, and my last newsletter for 2020.

The year started very positively for us, a huge year coming up, including my daughters first year at university, her new little car for driving lessons and the garden was looking good with the summer rain helping. So, it was looking so good all around.

We could hear the noise of the virus coming out of China; however, it was not too much of a worry as I had been through Swine Flu and SARS and never missed a flight, so what could this new virus do to us?

On March 18th I was on a flight from Auckland to Brisbane and had to quarantine on return, I have not been on a flight since.

And doesn’t that sound familiar? Doesn’t that hit too close to home?

Doesn’t that make you shiver; the way things could’ve gone?

Could it leave me with a scar?

In April the health concerns hit, I had a blockage and finished up in the Gold Coast Private Hospital having a prostrate operation. No, not for cancer; thankfully, it was common men’s thing call a rebore, a nightmare for any man. I survived, taking a mandatory infection from the hospital with me, as I was discharged. They hand infections out at the door, like most hospitals. Being in a hospital in the middle of COVID, was also a worry, so not funny at all.

This one for the older men?

Then came the thinking time during the six weeks of recovery, I was not allowed to do much, and the infection took four weeks to move along. Here are some of the thoughts.

Holy Crap, I am out of work for the first time in my life as from March 18th the world business had stopped. God put the Brembo brakes on and we never even seen the red calipers traveling towards us.

And doesn’t that sound familiar? Doesn’t that hit too close to home?

So, this could have been time to go into a slump. (Depression) There was a small amount of this at my end, however, living near the water helps a lot, as you can go to the Broadwater to think and clear your head, my happy place. Six weeks, what can one do with this time?

I had a quarter finished book I was trying to write, it was waiting for my attention, so the time had come, so I got underway. It took me until November to have it published. So, the six weeks working on the book passed quickly and by that time I had a list of other things I had to do in the office, garden and maintenance around the house. Plus the massive job of a new website and a restructure of the company.

And doesn’t that sound familiar? Doesn’t that hit too close to home?

In September I lost another almost lifelong friend, I had lunch with him in January, and we sat and went over many subjects, it is still hard to believe he has gone. A friendship and a mentor lost forever, and he cannot be replaced. RIP Mike Tope, a husband, a Dad, a family man and a Motor Industry professional. His lovely family mourn and rely on time to to heal their hearts.

And doesn’t that sound familiar? Doesn’t that hit too close to home? (Sad)

All this time with the family for a Road Warrior, you may think about how he could stand not traveling, well let me tell you all the truth. I have loved being home with my special wife Hee Ju and daughter Jay. Being home was what I needed. (And I did not know) Time to be a husband and a father again and appreciate the girls as I should, and I also realised how compatible Hee Ju and I are, and why we are together. (Nice don’t you think)

And doesn’t that sound familiar? Doesn’t that hit too close to home?

So here we are my friends and its almost Christmas/Year-End, and in Australia and New Zealand we keep on the edge of the crisis, and our lives are near normal, so I reckon we all have our Christmas present already. At Christmas, we should all spare a thought for those in other places which are not as lucky with the virus wrecking their lives, as we dance in the sun with our freedom.

All the best to all for 2021
